Purpose of job

The role is responsible for supporting payroll operations across Germany and the Netherlands, acting as a key subject-matter expert on payroll, tax, social security and expatriate-related matters. It works closely with external payroll providers, tax advisors, Finance, Legal, Mobility teams and international HR colleagues to ensure payroll processes are delivered accurately, on time and in full compliance with all regulatory requirements. Furthermore, the position contributes to continuous process improvements and supports audits, reporting activities and the handling of employee payroll enquiries. Furthermore, the role offers significant exposure to international payroll and expatriate topics within a leading global financial institution.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and verify payroll input data for the German and Dutch entities to guarantee correct and punctual salary disbursements.

  • Assist with payroll matters for internationally assigned employees, covering relevant tax and social security aspects.

  • Carry out reconciliation checks and provide support during monthly and annual closing cycles.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for staff payroll questions via Service Now, while coordinating with external payroll partners, tax consultants, and internal departments.

  • Assist in audit preparation, regulatory compliance efforts, and various payroll-related reporting tasks.

  • Keep payroll documentation up to date and help drive initiatives around process optimization and automation.

  • Contribute to administering staff benefit programs and pension arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Multi-year background in payroll, HR operations, or a comparable professional field.

  • Solid understanding of tax regulations related to payroll, social security frameworks, and labor law.

  • Prior exposure to collaborating with third-party payroll vendors and coordinating across various stakeholder groups.

  • Familiarity with expatriate payroll processes or cross-border employment topics considered a plus.

  • Academic degree or professional training in Human Resources, Payroll, Finance, Taxation, Business Administration, or a comparable discipline.

  • Strong analytical capabilities, a detail-oriented approach, and a service-driven attitude.

  • Proficient in Excel at an advanced level; familiarity with platforms such as SuccessFactors, ServiceNow HR, DATEV, or comparable tools is an asset.

  • Fluency in both German and English, spoken and written.
