Purpose of job

The position is responsible for guiding the strategic development of the Finance & Control function in preparation for ECB supervision and growing regulatory demands. The focus is on enhancing Finance capabilities to meet both internal and external requirements, ensuring reliable monitoring and communication of financial performance, and embedding Finance considerations into decision-making at both entity and group level.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to the ECB Finance team and oversee readiness activities across Finance functions, ensuring objectives are achieved and responsibilities fulfilled

  • Direct the ECB onboarding activities within Finance, securing adherence to regulatory standards, establishing processes consistent with market expectations, and addressing risks or limitations effectively

  • Monitoring ECB Finance sub-working groups to assure that strategic objectives are achieved, accurately prioritized, and subject to risk assessment

  • Assist the Head of Finance in implementing the Target Operating Model, covering staff onboarding and training, talent development, oversight of branches and subsidiaries, outsourcing governance, regional cooperation, and the establishment of centers of excellence

  • Partner with other ECB workstreams such as Risk, IT, Data Management, Stress Testing, and Business Model Assessment to ensure coordinated delivery

  • Lead the Finance Committee, maintaining strong governance structures and clear reporting of finance matters to senior management

  • Reinforce governance and oversight mechanisms across Finance at both entity and group levels

  • Work closely with local management, stakeholders, and business teams to position Finance & Control as a reliable and influential partner, while contributing to and, where appropriate, leading local financial planning and strategic initiatives

  • Supervise outsourced Finance services, with particular emphasis on meeting ECB requirements

Qualifications

  • Extensive professional experience in finance or risk roles within the banking sector, ideally across investment banking or universal banking

  • Strong background in project management and team leadership

  • Master’s degree required; professional qualifications considered an asset

  • Ability to understand complex topics, challenge assumptions, and communicate clearly and precisely

  • Profound analytical, numerical and IT skills

  • Extensive knowledge of financial products, investment banking, accounting, financial reporting (IFRS, HGB), and prudential regulation

  • Strong capacity to build relationships at all levels, foster collaboration, and cultivate a strong team spirit

  • Independent working style

  • Full professionell proficiency in English; German is a great advantage
